HVCU Opens New Branch in New Paltz |
Hudson Valley Credit Union brings community-focused banking to 29 Main Street |
Hudson Valley Credit Union (HVCU) celebrated the grand opening of its new branch in New Paltz on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The location at 29 Main Street marks the credit union's continued expansion across Ulster County and brings accessible, member-focused financial services to the heart of the village.
A Community Welcome
The grand opening drew local business leaders, elected officials, and community members who gathered to welcome the credit union to the area. Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger, Town of New Paltz Supervisor Tim Rogers, and representatives from the offices of Congressman Pat Ryan, State Senator Michelle Hinchey, and Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha all attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, conducted by the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
HVCU's Chief Banking Officer Rick Lionhood and Board of Directors Vice Chair Keith Baskett led the ceremony, emphasizing the credit union's commitment to building lasting relationships in the community.
"With the opening of our New Paltz Branch, we're focused on more than expanding our footprint — we're strengthening our partnership with the community," said Lionhood. "We look forward to building lasting relationships and helping individuals, families, and businesses across New Paltz achieve their financial goals."
What HVCU Brings to New Paltz
The new branch offers a modern banking experience that blends personalized service with convenient technology. Key features include:
Unlike traditional banks, HVCU operates as a not-for-profit financial cooperative, meaning profits are returned to members through better rates, lower fees, and improved services. The credit union's model prioritizes member needs over shareholder returns.
Why It Matters for New Paltz
The addition of a community-focused credit union fills an important gap in the village's financial services landscape. For local businesses, it means access to lending and financial guidance from an institution that understands the local economy. For residents, it provides an alternative to large national banks — one that keeps decision-making close to home and reinvests in the community.
The branch also strengthens HVCU's presence in Ulster County, where the credit union has been growing its footprint. With locations across the Hudson Valley, HVCU serves thousands of members throughout the region.
Hours and Access
The HVCU New Paltz branch is located at 29 Main Street, right in the village center. Interactive Teller Machines are available for extended access, and staff are on hand during business hours to assist with account opening, loan applications, and financial planning.
