New Paltz Way Brings Innovative Eco-Design to Water Street |
After three years of planning and design tweaks, the new three-story inn at 11 Water Street is now welcoming overnight guests |
New Paltz has a new place to stay. New Paltz Way, originally proposed as Water Street Trails Hotel, officially opened to the public on July 1, 2026, after nearly three contentious years before the Village of New Paltz Planning Board. The three-story inn at 11 Water Street represents a new approach to eco-conscious lodging in the Hudson Valley.
A Long Road to Opening
The project went through numerous design tweaks during the approval process. The original plan included a café component, but that was nixed due to potential traffic impacts from patrons not staying overnight. The name also changed from Water Street Trails Hotel to New Paltz Way during development.
Despite the challenges, the inn is now open and accepting reservations. Guests can book stays directly through the New Paltz Way website.
Eco-Design Features
New Paltz Way emphasizes sustainable design principles throughout the property. The inn features energy-efficient systems, locally sourced materials where possible, and design elements that minimize environmental impact while maximizing guest comfort.
The location on Water Street puts guests within walking distance of downtown New Paltz's shops, restaurants, and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. While there's no on-site café, the walkable location means guests have easy access to the many dining options on Main Street, just blocks away.
Perfect Timing for Visitors
The inn's opening comes just in time for fall foliage season and the busy autumn events calendar. With the Woodstock-New Paltz Art & Crafts Fair, the Elting Library Fair, and peak leaf-peeping season ahead, New Paltz Way adds much-needed lodging capacity to the area.
The inn also offers easy access to outdoor activities including hiking at Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park, both within a short drive. Rock climbers and hikers will find the location convenient to the Shawangunk Ridge's world-class trails.
