More Than Machines: Why Cherry Orchard Laundromat Earned New Paltz's Loyalty |
60 washers and dryers. 34 industrial Huebsch dryers. Daily hours from 6 AM to 10 PM. And a wash-and-fold crew that actually folds your sheets. Here's why Cherry Hill Road residents keep coming back. |
Let's be honest — nobody puts "my favorite laundromat" on their social media. Laundromats live in the background of daily life: essential, overlooked, and only noticed when they aren't working. But some of New Paltz's most talked-about businesses are the ones quietly doing the unglamorous work of keeping the town running. Cherry Orchard Laundromat, at 7 Cherry Hill Road, is exactly that kind of business.
A Floor That Can Handle Anything
What makes Cherry Orchard stand out isn't a boutique aesthetic — it's raw capacity. The facility runs 60 machines, including:
For SUNY New Paltz students hauling bedding every semester, and for families dealing with muddy soccer gear or post-hike outerwear, that variety means no more dividing one load across three machines just to get through the wash.
Wash, Dry & Fold — So You Don't Have To
Cherry Orchard isn't just self-service. The Wash, Dry & Fold Service lets trained attendants handle everything: sorting, washing, drying, folding, and bagging. Drop your laundry off on your way to climbing the Trapps or biking the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, and pick up neatly folded clothes on the way back.
The facility is part of Mid Hudson Valley Laundry, a regional group operating four Hudson Valley locations: Cherry Orchard (New Paltz), Five Star Laundry (Highland Falls), Fountain Square Laundry (Beacon), and Laundry Shak. That multi-site backing means consistent machine maintenance, reliable soap supply, and an established loyalty program for regulars.
While You Wait: Actually Comfortable Amenities
An hour in a laundromat needs decent infrastructure, and Cherry Orchard clearly understands that:
Google reviewers mention cleanliness over and over — a word that appears more often than you'd expect. In a business category where "adequately maintained" is the ceiling, Cherry Orchard is clearly aiming higher.
Open Every Day, Early to Late
Cherry Orchard is open Sunday through Saturday, 6 AM to 10 PM. Whether you're squeezing in a load before dawn patrol at the Gunks or catching up on laundry after a night out in town, the doors are open.
The Details
Why It Matters
Not every local spotlight has to be on a restaurant or a boutique. New Paltz thrives because of its ecosystem of small businesses — the ones that fill in the gaps between the glamorous ones. Cherry Orchard Laundromat is part of that invisible infrastructure: a clean, well-run, well-staffed facility that serves students, families, and residents every single day of the week. In a town full of businesses worth knowing about, this one earns a look.

My daughter is a junior at SUNY and she actually uses the wash and fold service during finals week. She drops everything off and picks it up same day. As a parent I was skeptical but honestly it's been a lifesaver. Didn't even know this place existed until she mentioned it.
Diane KowalskiSame situation here — my son is a sophomore and he was just throwing everything in a garbage bag and letting it pile up until breaks. We finally told him about the wash and fold and he actually uses it now. A little extra cost but way better than him showing up home with three weeks of laundry lol.
I appreciate the shoutout but let's not oversell it — it's still a laundromat. The machines are good yeah, but I've shown up on Sunday mornings and half the dryers on the left side were out of order. Cleaner than most, sure, but "aiming higher" is a stretch. Just be consistent and I'm happy.
That's fair feedback, and we'd rather hear it than not — consistency is exactly the bar a facility like this should be held to, and if the left-side dryers are a recurring issue on weekend mornings, that's worth flagging directly to the staff at (845) 390-1290. We stand by the cleanliness observation as a genuine pattern across reviews, but you're right that no amount of good machines matters if half of them are down when you need them.
Those 80-pound front-loaders are no joke. I hauled my king comforter there last winter and it actually came out clean and dry in one trip. Used to have to stuff it into two machines at the old place on Main and it still came out damp. This spot is worth the drive over to Cherry Hill.
Tara M.The damp comforter struggle is so real. I gave up on my old place for anything bigger than a twin and was just hand-washing my throw blankets like some kind of pioneer. Definitely going to try those big machines next time I need to do my duvet.
