The 3 Best Dog Groomers in New Paltz — Which One Fits Your Pup? |
From a full-service kennel to mobile vans that come to your driveway, here's how the area's top groomers compare. |
Your dog deserves a spa day — but not every groomer is built the same way. Whether you need a quick nail trim, a full breed-specific haircut, or a stress-free experience for an anxious pup, New Paltz and the surrounding area has options that go well beyond the basics. Here are three of the most trusted names and what makes each one stand out.
Fra-Sha Kennels — The Full-Service Local Staple
Address: 40 S Putt Corners Rd, New Paltz, NY 12561 Fra-Sha Kennels has been a fixture in New Paltz for years, offering grooming alongside boarding and kennel services. That combination makes them a practical one-stop-shop — drop your dog off for a full groom and book boarding for your vacation in the same visit. With 25 reviews on Birdeye and nearly 500 followers on Facebook, they've built a loyal local following. Best for: pet owners who want a traditional, in-shop groomer with boarding options all under one roof.
Creature Comfort Grooming — Premium Mobile Pampering
Service Area: New Paltz, Highland, Kingston, and surrounding towns (Ulster, Dutchess & Orange Counties) Creature Comfort takes the opposite approach — instead of you driving to a shop, they drive to you. Their mobile grooming van comes right to your driveway, which is a game-changer for dogs who hate car rides or get stressed in unfamiliar settings. They emphasize a patient, transparent process where your dog isn't rushed. Every groom is one-on-one, with no cages and no crowd. Best for: anxious or senior dogs, busy pet parents who want maximum convenience, and owners who prefer a calm, low-stress experience.
Tails & Tubs II Mobile Grooming — Natural Products, Personal Attention
Service Area: Clintondale-based, serving New Paltz and all of Ulster, Dutchess & Orange Counties Owned by Sarah Atkins — a professional groomer and veterinary assistant — Tails & Tubs II is another mobile option with a distinctive philosophy. They use only all-natural shampoos with no harsh chemicals, and every dog gets completely one-on-one time with the groomer (no crates, no waiting cages). That personal approach has earned them over 1,300 Facebook likes and a strong local reputation. Best for: chemically-sensitive dogs, eco-conscious owners, and pet parents who want a groomer with veterinary training and a gentle touch.
The Quick Comparison
Whichever you choose, book early — mobile groomers in the Hudson Valley fill up fast, especially in spring and summer. And if your dog has never been groomed before, ask about a meet-and-greet or a first-visit consultation so your pup can ease into the experience. |

The all-natural shampoo thing at Tails and Tubs is not a small deal for some of us. My beagle had a skin reaction at another groomer years ago and we switched to natural products only after that. Glad there's an option like this close by.
Rachel SteinSame thing happened with my dachshund. Took us a while to figure out it was the shampoo and not just dry skin. Once we switched to natural products it cleared up pretty fast. Definitely worth paying a little extra to avoid that whole ordeal again.
We've used Fra-Sha for years, mostly for boarding, but their grooming is solid too. Nothing fancy but they know what they're doing and the staff actually remembers your dog's name. Good old school local spot.
Debra M.The "remembers your dog's name" thing matters more than people realize. My last groomer treated every appointment like it was the first time they'd ever seen my dog. Makes such a difference when the staff actually knows your pet.
Creature Comfort has a 5 star rating on Yelp and zero mention of pricing anywhere on their site. Would love to know what mobile actually costs compared to just driving to a shop. Convenience is great but not if its double the price.
We've used Fra-Sha for years and they really are a staple. Dropped Biscuit off for a bath and nail trim last fall while we were boarding him over Thanksgiving and it was so easy. Nice to see them get some recognition.
