Wally's Ice Cream Parlor North Reopens on Main Street |
New Paltz's beloved ice cream shop returns under third-generation ownership with 9 soft-serve flavors and 33 scoop options |
There was more than a bit of hand-wringing around New Paltz when word came that Twistee Cone, the uptown ice cream shop at 247 Main Street, was closing its doors. Locals wondered whether the block would lose its sweet spot entirely.
Rest easy — the cones and bowls will continue to be filled. Wally's Ice Cream Parlor North reopened at 247 Main Street on April 7, 2026, bringing back a familiar name and a serious ice cream lineup.
A Family Legacy in Every Scoop
Wally's is owned by Pete DeLeo, the third generation of his family to run a Wally's location. That kind of multi-generational commitment shows up in the details — this isn't a pop-up or a seasonal afterthought. It's a full-service ice cream parlor built to be a year-round Main Street staple.
What's on the Menu
The reopened shop offers an impressive spread:
Hours and What to Know
Wally's Ice Cream Parlor North is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with extended summer hours planned as the season heats up. The shop is located right in the heart of downtown New Paltz at 247 Main Street — easy to walk to from the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail or the Huguenot Street parking lots.
Why It Matters
Ice cream shops are more than dessert stops — they're community gathering places. The kind of spot where families line up after a hike on the Gunks, where college students grab a cone between classes, and where visitors get their first taste of what makes Main Street special. Wally's reopening means that tradition continues, with a third-generation owner who clearly takes the craft seriously.
Whether you're a soft-serve loyalist or someone who needs to see all 33 scoop flavors before committing, Wally's Ice Cream Parlor North is back and ready for you. |

Pete DeLeo's family has been doing this for generations, that's not nothing. A lot of places open and fold within two years. Third generation ownership means something, at least they know what they're doing.
33 scoop flavors is no joke but ice cream nachos?? Somebody explain that to me because i genuinely cannot picture it
So relieved this space didn't sit empty for a year. Walked past it every day after Twistee Cone closed and it was just sad. Glad it's a Wally's, they've been around forever for good reason.
